As we told you about this morning, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop west of Iowa today in portions of Nebraska and Kansas. As you can see in the graphic to the left, the Storm Prediction Center is preparing to issue a watch for the area circled in orange. This area is where thunderstorms are expected to develop within the next couple of hours.
Eventually those storms are expected to reach portions of western Iowa this evening, bringing with them a threat of strong winds, some large hail and an isolated tornado or two.
It is unclear how far into Iowa this threat will stretch, but we could see strong storms linger well past sunset. We’ll continue to monitor this situation, post updates as needed and launch our live coverage if needed later tonight.
