There are signs that the cap over Iowa this afternoon is breaking in western and central Iowa, along with parts of Nebraska. Therefore, the Storm Prediction Center is considering issuing a watch for this area. You can see the area they’re keeping an eye on highlighted in the graphic to the left. It’s a iffy day for storm chasing as storms might not develop until later in the evening, but for chasers in the western half of Iowa, there is a slight chance of good conditions.
Right now it appears the primary threat of severe weather in this area is strong, damaging winds, with the greatest risk for tornadoes existing in any storms that develop later today in northeastern parts of the state. We’ll monitor the situation and bring you more as the situation develops.
