The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for the southernmost tier of Iowa Counties until 2am. This watch shows you how, if these storms hold together, we could face a very late night of severe weather here in Iowa.
At this hour severe thunderstorms are developing in central Kansas and are expected to continue to develop along a warm front moving through Missouri and eventually into Iowa later tonight. Although a tornado or two is possible here in Iowa, I believe by the time storms arrive tonight the primary threats will be large hail and strong damaging winds.
With all the rain in recent days, we’ll also have to keep an eye out for flash flooding. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and bring you live coverage later tonight when/if needed.
