The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a Tornado Watch for a portion of northern Iowa until 8:00pm this evening. This watch includes 16 counties in Iowa. You can see the area affected in the graphic to the left.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are occuring in portions of South Dakota at this hour and are expected to grow in size and intensity and move into Iowa later this afternoon. Condition are ripe for tornadoes to develop within the strongest of supercells. Large hail and strong winds are also a threat with any storms in this area.
We also expect more storms to develop that might threaten the rest of the state during the afternoon and evening hours. We will continue to monitor the situation and will launch our live coverage if needed later today.
