The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a tornado watch for a handful of counties in southwest Iowa until midnight. Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this evening, producing supercells capable of large hail, strong damaging winds and a few tornadoes.
There is a lot of turbulence in the atmosphere which is of most concern right now. A long duration wind event is not anticipated as storms should stay in western Iowa during the overnight hours. We are communicating with a chase team in western Iowa monitoring the situation there in case anything develops in the coming hours.
