The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK is preparing to issue a tornado watch for parts of northwest Iowa. You can see the area under consideration for a watch in the graphic to the left.
Thunderstorms near a low pressure system in southeast South Dakota are growing in size and intensity. With no clouds or rain in Iowa this morning, the atmosphere is ripe for severe thunderstorm development.
For the next few hours, tornadoes are possible in the strongest storms. This is a situation we’ll be closely monitoring throughout the afternoon and evening and will bring you more when/if this tornado watch is issued.
