The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 3:00pm for a large portion of southern and eastern Iowa. Showers and thunderstorms continue to roll through central Iowa with some cells intensifying as they move into unstable air over southern Iowa. Storms should continue to intensify bringing with them a threat of large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.
There is an increased threat of tornadoes from any storms that break away from the line and manage to slow down a bit. These storms would have to be monitored closely as the parameters are in place for tornadic development.
Chase teams are focusing in on portions of southern Iowa. The threat is expected to linger for several hours. We’ll monitor the situation and bring you the latest as soon as it’s available.
