WXALERT: Thunderstorm Watch for NW Iowa Until 1:00AM

SVRwatch The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of western and northwestern Iowa until 1:00AM Thursday Morning.

Showers and thunderstorms are beginning to develop in north central Nebraska and South Dakota.  Unlike storms in Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri, these storms are more elevated.  That will make the primary threat damaging winds, but large hail and tornadoes remain a threat.

HAIL TO 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER…THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH…AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS. THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 80 STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 45 MILES WEST NORTHWEST OF ONEILL NEBRASKA TO 30 MILES SOUTHEAST OF SPENCER IOWA.
