Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. Genuine cold air is rushing into the Upper Midwest, behind a cold front now draped across Iowa and Nebraska. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of central and western Iowa near that cold front.
Storms are expected to develop tonight and although not terribly organized, the cold air will aid their efforts to produce large hail. Some strong gusty winds are also possible tonight, but hail appears to be the primary threat.
We’ll continue to monitor this situation and launch live coverage if needed.
