A new mesoscale discussion this afternoon from the Storm Prediction Center. The area highlighted now includes areas of southern and central Iowa. At least one severe thunderstorm warning has been issued because of a threat of strong, gusty winds and some large hail. With storms moving north at 50mph, wind gusts appear to be the primary threat.
The SPC is monitoring the situation but at this time is not issuing a watch. If a sustained threat continues over the next 1-2 hours, that could change for parts of eastern Iowa. We’ll keep you posted.
