The Storm Prediction Center has posted a mesoscale discussion for a large portion of the state. There are indications that strong thunderstorms will develop soon, especially over the western half of Iowa. Thunderstorms have already developed in eastern Iowa, but are elevated in nature and appear to be no threat of producing severe weather.
At this time, large hail and some strong wind gusts are the primary threats with any storms that develop this afternoon or evening. The SPC is monitoring the situation in western and central Iowa but at this time has no plans to issue a severe thunderstorm watch. We’ll continue to follow the situation there and bring you updates throughout the afternoon.
