A good amount of sun, warmth and instability is producing conditions favorable for severe thunderstorm development across parts of Iowa today. You can see in the graphic to the right the areas currently being considered for a severe weather watch. Storms are expected to develop later this afternoon and evening in an environment supportive of supercells.
These storms are expected to develop near a warm front that’s set up shop to the east of the low pressure center. Area storm spotters and storm chasers should be on alert for potential strong storms within the next 1-5 hours. We’ll continue to monitor the threat and bring you more updates as they become available.
