WXALERT: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 5 AM

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a large portion of northern Iowa until 5:00 Saturday Morning. 

Strong thunderstorms continue to develop in central Iowa.  These storms are expected to intensify and increase in size as the overnight hours pass.  Strong winds and large hail are the primary threats with this overnight severe weather event.

HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER…THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH…AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS. THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 75 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES SOUTHEAST OF FORT DODGE IOWA TO 35 MILES NORTH OF REDWOOD FALLS MINNESOTA.
