The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of central Iowa until 3:00am. The relatively small watch box is an extension of the tornado watch in effect for portions of southwest Iowa.
The frontal boundary is not moving and storms are not making much progress to the east. The primary threat from these storms appears to be brief wind gusts and large hail. The storms have a history of producing hail up to the size of golf balls.
We will continue to monitor the threat tonight and bring you more as it’s available.
