A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is now in effect for portions of Des Moines and Lee County until 12:30 Monday Afternoon. The storm is capable of producing large hail, strong wind gusts in excess of 60mph and could produce a brief tornado. This is a dangerous situation especially because this is not the time of year many would consider severe weather a threat. The storm should not affect portions of Iowa for too long before moving further into Illinois. Other storms in extreme eastern Iowa are strong, but not severe just yet. A tornado watch remains in effect for this area until 6:00pm. I expect the threat for Iowa to subside around 2pm.
