It almost sounds like something we would see in the later summer months. But this is March and it’s happening. The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring portions of northwest Iowa for a possible Severe Thunderstorm Watch. This is an area where thunderstorms may develop tonight capable of producing large hail.
The atmosphere, capped for much of the day, is expected to destabilize during the overnight hours. Aided by the low level jet and you get a good setup for strong thunderstorms before sunrise. We’ll continue to monitor the latest information and bring you the very latest when it’s available.
