The National Weather Service has issued a BLIZZARD WARNING for portions of Iowa. This Warning is in effect for a number of counties. You can see them highlighted in the map to the right in red. Counties shaded in blue are currently under a Winter Weather Advisory. Freezing rain is expected to develop across northwest Iowa tonight before changing to snow after midnight. Ice accumulations can lead to slick roads tonight. Snowfall totals by tomorrow in northwest Iowa may reach 4”-8” as winds increase to 40mph.
A combination of wind and snow will lead to blizzard conditions in the warned area, snow may drift over roads and visibility will be reduced to zero at times. This is a very dangerous situation for anyone traveling in northwest Iowa and should be taken seriously. We’re awaiting another set of model runs and plan to release a new forecast later this afternoon. We’ll continue to provide updates throughout the night as needed.
