You know when the calendar turns to November, it’s only a matter of time before snow, sleet, ice and everything in between come with it. The latest long range models show the pattern beginning a fundamental shift to a more consistently cold pattern. That of course means winter weather is on its way.
At this time there is nothing ominous on the horizon. A strong storm system will move through the Upper Midwest sometime late next week. You can see this storm system as advertised by the GFS computer model in the graphic to the left.At this time it’s unclear whether any snow will come out of this storm for Iowa, but northwest Iowa would stand the best chance to see some flakes.
Looking further down the road, the pattern looks much cooler than we’ve seen in recent days and weeks. All in all not a surprise for this time of year but certainly a departure from the 50’s and 60’s of the fall season.
Severe weather to me includes the hazards of winter weather. Therefore we will continue postings throughout the weather and plan to continue our live coverage when when the weather turns bad. We hope you will continue to follow us in the weeks and months ahead as we continue to bring you the very latest in dangerous weather here in Iowa.
