A long duration light to moderate snowfall event is anticipated this weekend. Snow is forecast to develop over northwest Iowa by the middle to late morning Saturday and then spread east-southeast over the remainder of central to northern Iowa in the afternoon hours Saturday.
The location of expected highest snowfall totals will be north of highway 30 to the Minnesota border. The time frame of greatest snowfall accumulation is likely Saturday afternoon into the evening. Lighter snow as far south as interstate 80 is expected Saturday afternoon and evening. Snow begins to taper off by Sunday afternoon across the entire area.
A widespread swath of 4 to 8 inches is likely along and north of highway 30 to the Minnesota border. From interstate 80 to around highway 30 can expect 2 to 4 inches.
Winds will be out of the southeast at 10 to 15-mph, with gusts to 25-mph. Visibility restrictions of one to two miles are likely with less than a mile at times possible.
