The all important rain-snow line is being closely watched today as in parts of the state, the changeover to snow is occurring faster than first thought. The graphic to the left shows the current forecast from the National Weather Service in Des Moines for snowfall totals as of 3pm Saturday Afternoon.
But now, with reports of snow coming in earlier than anticipated, the NWS is re-examining whether these snow totals could go a touch higher. That’s important because right now there is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for these areas. If totals of 6″ or higher are expected over a large enough area, we could see forecaster upgrade this advisory to a Winter Storm Warning.
For now we’ll continue to monitor the situation as conditions and road begin to deteriorate.
