Winter Storm 11/20

Iowa Winter Storm

The first winter storm of the season will impact a large portion of Iowa Friday and Friday night. Snow will begin over northwest Iowa by late morning to early afternoon and spread across the remainder of the area Friday afternoon and evening. Breezy northerly winds Friday night may cause areas of blowing and drifting of snow.

Snow is expected to begin across the area during the late morning to early afternoon hours then continue overnight. The heaviest snow will occur from mid afternoon through mid evening.

Accumulations of 6 to 10 inches will be expected by Saturday morning. Visibilities in snow may drop to one quarter mile at times. Winds of 15 to 25mph Friday night may produce blowing and drifting snow, and also help contribute to reduced visibilities.

The combination of slushy and snow covered roads will lead to hazardous travel conditions, including during the Friday evening commute. Travel conditions will likely become treacherous at times. Be sure to use caution and use your winter driving skills.
