See all those colors to the north and west of Iowa? Those are winter weather advisories and warnings in effect today as a storm system moves through the Upper Midwest. The storm’s track is expected to keep Iowa out of most of the winter action, but there might still be some isolated problems in areas later today.
As the storm tracks through the area, Iowans should experience mainly rain. A mixture of freezing rain and snow will develop as the system moves out, but with warmer ground temperatures no widespread problems are expected.
It’s possible some slick spots could develop, but the biggest concern is the winds that develop during any light snow showers. Winds will remain rather gusty tonight and could combine with the snow to reduce visibilities in some places. Overall, snow totals shouldn’t reach higher than an inch or two, if any snow accumulates at all. We’ll monitor the situation and offer updates tonight if needed.
