For those of you who were wondering where our warmer temperatures that we were forecasting went, well you can blame it on the snow that we have received over the last few days. If you notice from the visible satellite image from yesterday afternoon across western Iowa (outlined in red), there is very little snow cover and this is where highs yesterday warmed up into the mid to upper 50s!
Because of this snow cover across the eastern two thirds of the state, highs tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 20s. Across western Iowa, were there is little to no snow cover, highs will be in the mid 30s. The more snow we melt, the better potential we will have to warm up. It does look like on Monday that we will see the lower 40s where there is snow, and the upper 40s to lower 50s where there is no snow. So there will be warmer weather on the way, however, just not as warm as we thought last week due to the fresh snow cover. Let hope we start melting this snow so we can look ahead to spring. However, I hate to share the bad news, but we are keeping an eye on a storm system next weekend. Something we will watch very closely and will bring you the very latest in the coming days. Until then, think warmer thoughts and warmer temperatures!
