Vinton Iowa Rated EF-2 Tornado

Vinton, Iowa Tornado

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has completed their storm survey from Vinton, Iowa. It has been confirmed that and EF-2 tornado with peak winds of 135-mph moved through town in the early morning hours Sunday. The tornado had a max width of 100 yards, and a length of 1.62 miles. Only 5 people were injured by this tornado.

      Since radar scans come in every 3 to 5 minutes, these brief spin up tornadoes on the leading edge of a line of storms, are often not warned. They happen so quick, that the National Weather Service has no time to issue any warnings.
