URGENT: Iowa Placed Under Moderate Risk

Iowa Day 1 Moderate Convective Outlook

This morning, the Storm Prediction center has placed Iowa under a moderate risk. Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop by mid afternoon across southern Minnesota and western Iowa. Very large hail and tornadoes are expected with this activity.  Storms will develop Thursday afternoon, mainly after 3pm. The severity of the storms will also be affected by the morning convection. If we do not see a break in the morning convection, the severity of the storms will decrease.

From the image above, north central Iowa has been placed under a 10% enhanced risk. This is where the best dynamics will be to support tornadoes.

Another main risk Thursday will be large hail. Most of middle portion of the state is under a 45% enhanced risk for very large hail. Thursday will be a day that you will want to keep an eye to the sky. We will have both of our chase teams, including Dorothy. Look for the very latest updates on our Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as right here at iowachase.com.
