A pair of severe weather watches really didn’t amount to much as marginally severe thunderstorms affected just a small portion of Iowa on Tuesday. The storms struck primarily in central Iowa during the afternoon hours, producing a small number of wind and small hail reports.
For a brief time some rotation was detected by radar and this too produced nothing. All in all it turned out to be as a non event as I thought it would be when I woke up this morning.
I’ll admit I was a little surprised when the watches were issued. My best guess is that there was some potential out there that the storms could maintain a severe core, but in the end, just one cell managed to keep its act together for more than an hour.
Looking further ahead there are no major severe weather events currently in the offing for the state. We’ll continue to monitor that but for now enjoy our more traditional summer weather while it lasts.
