Turkey River Forecasted to be Near Record Levels

Some residents in northeast Iowa are spending this afternoon, filling sandbags as river levels are expected to rise overnight. The Turkey River at Elkader is currently at 15.63 feet as of 4pm Thursday afternoon. Current forecast has the river cresting at 27 feet at 7am Friday morning. This is 8 inches below the record.

Turkey River at Garber River Forecast

Further downstream, the Turkey River at Garber, is currently at 17.12 feet. Forecast as the river at this location cresting at 1pm Friday at 28 feet, which is almost 5 feet below record levels.

Nearly 8 inches of rain fell on Tuesday near Decorah, which is a result of this flooding. Fortunately the next chance of rain will hold off until Saturday, which will give time for the water levels to recede in this area.
