THURSDAY: The Storms Just Keep on Coming

Round after round after round of showers and thunderstorms.  The broken record this week will continue on Thursday as our nearly stationary front continues to linger over Iowa.  There is some uncertainty this far out over the severity of Thursday’s threat.  At this time it’s expected storms will fire across Iowa in the late afternoon or early evening hours.  All of this is dependent on the chain of events following Tuesday Night’s round of severe weather.

At any rate, during this initial development, all modes of severe weather will be possible.  But the greatest threat will be for large hail and strong damaging winds.  An tornado or two cannot be ruled out at this time.

One other thing we’ll be closely monitoring with these storms is the potential for a “training” situation.  That’s when storms follow the same path, one after the other.  If a situation such as this unfolds, flash flooding could become a concern in some areas.  Fortunately the long-term flooding threat remains low at this point due to our below normal precipitation in recent months.

Either way, we will continue to monitor this situation and will post updates as needed.
