Strong thunderstorms producing large hail briefly affected portions of northwest Iowa late this morning and early this afternoon. But now the threat appears to be moving off into areas of southwest Minnesota. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch does remain in effect for portions of northern Iowa west of Interstate 35. There is a retreating warm front over Iowa that needs to be monitored for any additional development this afternoon.
Storms moving north of Iowa are elevated and moving away from the front. If any surface based development occurs along that front over Iowa, we could see some strong storms later today. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and re-launch our live chat when/if needed later today.
