Multiple rounds of rain will move through the state beginning this morning, and will continue through Saturday. Due to the moderate to heavy rainfall totals expected across the southern two-thirds of the state, the Weather Prediction Center has placed a large portion of the state under a slight risk of excessive rainfall as outlined in the image above.
The highest rainfall totals will fall from Des Moines, back through southwest Iowa, but there are some indications in the latest high resolution models that area of heavy rain will shift slightly further to the north. Regardless, effectively all of Iowa is expected to receive at least 1 to 1.5 inches of rain between today and Saturday. Most of this rainfall will come Friday night into Saturday morning.
