Significant Snow Early Next Week?

As soon as we are done with one storm system, another one is right on its heels. It appears a potential potent system will move through the upper Midwest starting Sunday night. It also appears that it will be a long duration system that will last through Tuesday morning. The models are too inconsistent right now, which is a little concerning since we are only three days out. This update will only highlight the current model trends, and not so much on the “how much will I see” question.

GFS Iowa SnowfallStarting off with the GFS, a wintery mix starts across western Iowa late Sunday evening. The low then travels right across Iowa, with the snow falling on the northwest side of the low.

GEM Iowa Snowfall ForecastThe Canadian model is also taking a very similar track as the GFS. Also comparing the European to the GEM and GFS, it too also takes a very similar track.

NAM Iowa SnowfallThe NAM in comparison seems to be the outlier. However, at this point, nothing can be ruled out due to all of the inconsistencies.

As we head into the weekend, we will be keeping a close eye on this system. So far it appears light to moderate snowfall accumulations will be possible starting Sunday night and into Monday mainly across northwest Iowa. Continue to check back here for all of the latest updates.
