Severe Weather Outbreak Possible Today

day1otlk_1300Some showers and thunderstorms across Iowa this morning are simply a sign of things to come later today.  Strong storms are expected to develop across the state, especially in portions of central and western Iowa.  These storms will be capable of producing all types of severe weather, including large hail, strong winds and tornadoes.

The primary threat today will come in the form of strong winds.  But in the first hours of thunderstorm development, a supercell or two may break away from the complex and produce a tornado or two.  This is a situation that needs to be closely monitored throughout the day and into the evening hours.

We’re planning to launch live coverage of today’s threat later today and will bring you the very latest throughout the morning and afternoon if the forecast changes.  All in all, it’s shaping up to be a stormy night across Iowa.  Be sure to stay with iowachase.com for complete coverage.  If needed, we’ll have live coverage tonight featuring up to the minute information and reports from storm chasers and storm spotters across the state of Iowa.
