Severe weather returns to the forecast, mainly for northern Iowa by Friday afternoon. A cold front will sweep through the state starting in northwest Iowa by mid afternoon Friday and will progress off to the southeast during the late afternoon to early evening hours. This cold front will be the trigger mechanism for storm development.
Ahead of this front, there will be enough instability that a few of these storms could be strong to severe. The greatest threats with any storm that does become severe, will be large hail and damaging wind gusts. After the front passes through the state, Saturday will be cooler, with clouds and showers on the decrease by afternoon.
