Before we wrap up the month of August, showers and thunderstorms will make a return to Iowa as a cold front sweeps through the area. The Storm Prediction Center has posted a slight risk for most of the state on Tuesday. The area under the slight risk is especially large because of the uncertainty surrounding the exact timing the front will pass through the state.
Timing will greatly impact the overall threat Iowa faces from this front. But at this time it appears likely we’ll see some severe weather in parts of Iowa on Tuesday. Depending on the movement of the front, showers and thunderstorms may linger across eastern Iowa on Wednesday. This event will also need to be monitored for the threat of heavy rain. But the good news is that after several days of dry weather, the widespread flooding risk has greatly diminished.
We’ll continue to monitor the latest developments in the forecast and bring you updates on Tuesday’s threat tomorrow.
