Forecasters believe storms will begin just west of Iowa in Nebraska and the Dakotas. If this storm development is delayed by a couple of hours it might begin in western Iowa. This is where the greatest chance for tornadic development will exist.
Taking a closer look at the risk, the greatest threat for severe weather lies across a large portion of Iowa. At this time it appears the state faces a long duration severe weather event that could last the entire night and into the morning hours.
This poses the chance of a widespread damaging wind event. It’s the kind of storms system that could keep a lot of people awake Tuesday Night and could give emergency crews a lot of work to do when it’s all said and done Wednesday Morning.
Taking a quick look at Wednesday, extreme southeast Iowa could see ongoing storms in the morning, but otherwise the storm system should push out of the area. Giving us a brief break from the stormy weather… but it won’t last long.
As for our plans on Tuesday, preparations are underway for a longer trip for this storm chase. At this time it appears we’ll have to begin in western Iowa and it will take some time to get in position. We’ll have more on the threat later tonight and into the morning when the next outlook is posted.
