We are watching the weather very closely today as strong to severe storms appear possible by late afternoon into early evening. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather across southern Iowa. At this time, the main risks appear to be large hail, and damaging wind gusts up to 70mph. There is a low tornado potential, but it may be possible to get an isolated tornado across southwest Iowa.

Timing of storms will be after 5pm, and before 10pm. Storms will develop across southwest Iowa and will advance off to the east. As the sun begins to set, we will be losing the heating of the day, which will allow storms to weaken, which is why the severe threat is much lower across southeast Iowa. A few storms may still contain some hail and gusty winds across southeast Iowa.
