The extra day off for many was certainly welcomed. But some in Iowa dealt with some nasty weather. Severe Thunderstorms produced damaging wind gusts and large hail in some parts of the state on Sunday and Monday. Fortunately reports of damage were isolated and minor.
To the left is a partially melted hail stone I snagged from my front yard in Cedar Rapids. You can see the hail was close to the size of a penny, or about .75” in diameter. Some stones appeared to reach the 1.00” severe threshold, but most were about this size. Borderline severe event, but not enough to cause any serious damage.
All in all an active weather weekend with little impact, in my mind the best kind.
