So here we go folks, what might just turn out to be our best chase day of the year. The risk is not all that great, but the setup is pretty good. There will likely be supercell development in Iowa Sunday afternoon. The parameters are there for some isolated tornadoes, but there is also the threat of a widespread severe weather outbreak.
The final Day 2 Convective Outlook for Sunday is about as "pretty" as you can get with just a slight risk. The heart of Iowa is tattooed with a hatched out area, as the frontal system will push through during "prime time."
So the plan as of now is as follows: get final assessment in the weather lab between noon and 2p.m. then head west and get into position, either in the ames area or a little further north. From there, the waiting will begin. I will try to write more Sunday morning as the Day 1 convective outlook comes into view, but for now it’s time to BBQ!
