The latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has upgraded part of the risk area to a moderate risk. But that area is barely stretching into far eastern Iowa. With cloud cover from this morning’s storms taking hold over much of the state, the atmosphere is not as explosive as storm chasers had hoped.
There remains a pretty good tornado threat, but in my opinion I find it hard to see where any long tracked tornadoes would develop. I want to stress that this is still a serious situation and strong storms continue to threaten the area and will do so for several hours.
With another watch now in the works for northeast Iowa, the primary focus is shifting to strong wind gusts and large hail. We’ll of course keep an eye on anything and share any reports that may come in.
