Severe thunderstorms developed along a warm front Wednesday evening, bringing large hail, strong winds, heavy downpours, and an EF-0 tornado near Salem, IA around 3 pm in the afternoon. No damage was reported and no one was injured.
Our chase team arrived on the storm that developed southwest of Salem, Iowa several minutes before it went tornado warned. They witnessed the wall cloud develop west of Salem, with a funnel cloud forming moments later. Eventually the storm went on to produce a tornado that was on the ground for roughly a mile, and had maximum winds of 60-mph.
