With this kind of heat and humidity lingering around Iowa these days, it’s no surprise that another round of strong to severe thunderstorms is in the forecast. As you can see in the graphic to the left, the Storm Prediction Center has posted a slight risk for much of Iowa on Tuesday. A cold front will sweep through the state that day, bringing with it a classic summertime “clash of the air masses” that should spark strong to severe thunderstorms.
There is some doubt as to the intensity of these storms as ongoing showers and thunderstorms in the morning may limit the severe weather threat somewhat. Even so, it appears large hail and especially strong winds will be possible over much of the state on Tuesday. A brief tornado or two cannot be ruled out but at this time that does not appear to be the primary threat.
We’ll continue to monitor this threat and bring you more updates in the days ahead. For now though I hope that everyone enjoys their 4th of July Holiday!
