Persistent rain has led to a large Flash Flood Warning in parts of central Iowa. You can see in the radar image to the left the storm rainfall totals estimated by radar just before 11 this morning. This Flash Flood Warning includes portions of Audubon, Dallas, Guthrie, Polk, Boone, Greene and Story Counties until 4:30 this afternoon.
Areas in red in the radar image to the left are where the radar indicates 5-6” of rain has fallen. Some of these rain estimated might be on the high side because of some small hail mixed in. Even so, something to watch out for if you’re traveling in this area. Flash flooding could close some roads in the area. As this long line of thunderstorms continues to linger in the area, another inch or two of rain is possible over the next few hours with locally higher amounts.
We are also expecting a chance of severe weather later this afternoon and evening. More on that coming up this afternoon.
