Besides a threat for severe weather, a strong area of low pressure is producing strong winds across Iowa today. A wind advisory is in effect for much of northern Iowa as winds increase through the evening hours. Sustained winds could top 30mph later this evening with wind gusts topping 45mph. Some isolated gusts could go even higher, carrying a threat of producing wind damage away from thunderstorms expected to develop tonight.
The strong winds are also a concern for high profile vehicles out on the roads today and tonight. Drivers will need to take extra caution while on the road and also keep an eye on those other vehicles. Driving in a straight line will be a lot tougher today.
Of course our main concern is the expectation of severe weather later tonight. We hope to bring you an update coming up later this afternoon.
