Winds will strengthen across Iowa during the morning hours. The strong winds will continue into the afternoon hours, tapering down by sunset.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning in effect until 4pm this afternoon. The winds will strengthen through 4pm, then begin to diminish. West to northwest winds will be sustained at 40-mph or higher with 50 to 60-mph wind gusts.

Operating high profile vehicles, especially on north south roads, may be difficult. There have already been reports of semi trucks tipped over by the strong winds. Loose and unsecured objects may be blown around easily by the strong winds.

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40-mph or gusts of 58-mph or more can lead to property damage.
