After an absolutely beautiful weekend, the week ahead will turn active with multiple chances of thunderstorms, some potentially producing severe weather and heavy rain.
Showers and an isolated thunderstorm are possible over central and southern Iowa Monday morning through Monday afternoon. No severe weather is expected from this round of rain. A more widespread threat for thunderstorms arrives Tuesday night and Wednesday. This round of rain could produce a few severe storms. As of right now, it appears it will mainly be a damaging wind and large hail threat, but as always with it being a few days away, things can change.
The bigger threat with Tuesday and Wednesday evening storms will be the heavy rain. Current forecast indications through Friday place southern Iowa under the greatest risk of heavy rain. Total accumulations through Friday will range from 1 to 3 inches across the state, but areas across southern Iowa may exceed 4 inches.
