You really couldn’t ask for a worse time for the lights to go out. Late Monday afternoon the town of Parnell, where I live, lost power. A substation failed nearby, taking out the power and more importantly the air conditioning.
It was not a pleasant night as the temperature and humidity levels in our house rose all night long. Approximately 16 hours after it all began, the power was restored this morning at 8:55am. Hopefully for good. Alliant Energy tells me that they were forced to bring in a temporary substation to get the power back up and running. Hopefully this doesn’t mean that we’ll be dealing with more outages in the days to come since the weather will stay hot for the foreseeable future. Below is a series of pictures that I snapped during the outage.
