Well if you walked outside today, it felt like you walked right into a sauna. Temperatures were only in the 80s, but with dew points in the mid to upper 60s to lower 70s, this made it feel like the upper 80s to lower 90s. The heat has returned, but a little too late. Many students have returned to school last week, started today, or will be starting sometime this week. All summer long, the temperatures have been below normal, which made it not feel like summer. Now the pool weather has returned, and all of the students are trapped indoors learning. Always seems to happen doesn’t it?
With the return of the heat and humidity, so does the storm chances. Today northern Iowa was placed under a slight risk of severe weather. It has been awhile since we have last seen a slight risk in that neck of the woods, yet alone a drop of rain. All of the rain has seemed to miss northeast Iowa this year, and finally today has brought the best chance of rain they have seen in awhile. The next chance of rain will be late Tuesday night into Wednesday, and this will be very isolated so not everyone will see rain. After that, the next chance of rain will be on Saturday evening.
The remainder of the week will be hot with temperatures in the 80s to 90s. Combine that with tropical dew points in the60 to 70s, and heat indices will be in the 90s. The heat doesn’t look to last long as by the end of the weekend, temperatures cool off into the 80s by Sunday and Monday. If you can make it through the week, there is some relief in the forecast. Stay cool and remember to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks!
