There will be chances for thunderstorms today and tonight, but the more likely period of severe weather will be during the late afternoon and evening hours across central and northern Iowa. There will be a slight risk of severe weather during these periods with large hail and damaging wind the most likely threats, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
Storms will struggle to redevelop during the late afternoon hours, and may wait to develop until after sunset. This will greatly lower the severe weather potential, however, it still appears despite this mornings thunderstorms, the atmosphere should be able to recover some. Storms should mainly develop after 6pm and will continue into the evening hours of Wednesday.
Additional severe weather chances will be likely on Thursday, and these chances will be greater than today’s. Continue to follow the Iowa Storm Chasing Network for the latest severe weather updates.
