It could be a noisy and busy day across Iowa on Friday as a frontal system passes through the area. This system has the potential to bring with it a pair of severe weather events to parts of Iowa. For now, the Storm Prediction Center has a general risk for severe weather on Friday over much of Iowa. But this is a fluid situation that still has a lot of variables.
The first round could make its way through the area early on Friday Morning. This round could sustain severe weather during the overnight hours and after sunrise on Friday. Beyond this threat, if enough sunshine can break through the clouds by early afternoon, parts of the state could see another round of strong storms along a weak frontal boundary that passes through.
This is, of course, all conditional. Often times, frontal systems are not strong enough to break a cap that develops over the area. Whether that happens in this case remains to be seen. I expect Iowa will remain in a general slight risk for severe weather. We’ll of course pass those updates along to you tomorrow morning and afternoon.
