A cold front will bring colder air into the area combined with low pressure moving into western Illinois. Surface temperatures will be hovering near freezing later this afternoon and then falling into the mid 20’s this evening. With warmer temperatures aloft, freezing rain will be likely. Ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch will cause slick roadways and dangerous travel.
A freezing rain advisory will be in effect from 3pm this afternoon to 9pm this evening. An ice glaze on roadways will result in very slippery and hazardous conditions later this afternoon and evenings, including during the early evening commute.
A freezing rain advisory means that periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.
